This is my own personal editorial and should be viewed as such. I am a very patroitic American citizen and believe that the United States of America is the finest place in the world to live. Admitedly, it has it's problems, but if we work together, we as a whole, should be able to solve them.

What happened to politics?

Through recorded history, the United States has been a bastion for the downtrodden, standing up for the underdog, and presenting the fact that a true democracy can exist and be the most successful nation today.

What happened to those ideas that our forefathers watered the tree of freedom with their blood to gain? What happened to the great nation that stood so proud, a force to reckon with, the symbol of freedom for all mankind?

The political leaders in this country used to present their political platforms, built of firm foundations, with solid planks on which to present their ideas for a better tomorrow. No more, if you can judge from the behavior of both parties in this election.

The presidential debates used to be a thing of beauty, where you could observe how they react to situations, based on their ability to respond to those off the cuff questions, to allow the masses to see the strength of potential leaders. Now we are presented with a script, carefully choreographed to allow each party to have the ghost writers draft the most politically correct response to a question that has been digested thoroughly.

Mud-slinging is running rampant on both sides, either because one party does not have a solid platform, or is using gloom and doom tactics to scare voters into selecting him. Each candidate has their faults, and the voters must consider which one will have the better impact on us for the survival and success of our once great nation.

I have yet to see Senator Kerry's plan, although he has mentioned it many times in the media, not have I seen the method of payment for funding the many new programs proposed, except to continue as he did in the senate, when he ever condescended to appear to vote for more taxes on the everyday man. He has many ideas, some which I find very insightful and with great merit, but getting them in place will take an act of congress.

I favor President Bush, as I consider him to be a Godly man, and no, I am not preaching but think he is a moral person. He has made mistakes, but anyone who has to make hard decisions, will make mistakes, and is usually stronger for them. What makes good decisions? Experience. How do you gain experience? Bad decisions mixed with good decisions.

What is our future? Only the polls will tell, but I have never seen a group of Republicans attempt to disrupt the Democratic National Convention as the group of Democrats did with the Republican National Convention. All persons, regardless of political party, needs to demonstrate class and integrity, otherwise we are no better that those we defend to downtrodden against, but become what we fight against.

Thank you and good day.
